Tented Camp Safaris
Scroll for more Info

Stay in safari tents across Uganda’s wildlife destinations, from the open plains of Kidepo and Pian Upe to the riverbanks of Murchison Falls and the savannah of Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Tented camps offer different levels of comfort, from simple safari accommodation to spacious en-suite tents with private outdoor areas. Their locations also bring you closer to the landscapes you came to explore, whether that means heading out for a game drive, watching birds around a wetland or returning to camp after a day on the Nile.
Wild Compass Africa helps you choose tented accommodation that suits your route, budget and preferred level of comfort, with opportunities to explore Uganda’s wildlife, forests and local cultures along the way.
Kidepo Valley National Park
Stay in the remote landscapes of northeastern Uganda, where broad savannah plains, rugged mountains and wildlife define the safari experience. Tented accommodation here can be combined with game drives and, where arranged, cultural visits in the wider Karamoja region.
Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve
For travellers seeking a quieter and less-visited part of Uganda, Pian Upe offers open plains, rocky hills and a distinctive northeastern landscape. A tented stay can form part of a wider journey through Karamoja, subject to accommodation availability and arrangements.
Murchison Falls National Park
Combine a tented camp stay with game drives across the savannah and a boat trip along the Victoria Nile. The park offers opportunities to look for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions and other wildlife, depending on the area visited and the conditions.
Queen Elizabeth National Park
Tented accommodation provides a base for exploring the park’s varied habitats, from open grasslands to woodland and wetlands. Game drives, a cruise on the Kazinga Channel and selected birding excursions can be incorporated into your stay.
Lake Mburo National Park
Enjoy a safari in a landscape of acacia woodland, grassland and lakeside habitats. Depending on the camp and available activities, your stay can be combined with game drives, boat trips and guided nature walks.
Kibale Forest and the surrounding area
Choose accommodation suited to exploring the tropical forest and surrounding countryside. Chimpanzee tracking, birdwatching and visits to nearby communities can be included where appropriate, with activities arranged according to the relevant park rules and age requirements.
A tented safari is about more than where you sleep. The location of your camp helps shape the experiences available during your journey.
Wildlife game drives
Explore national parks with an experienced guide, looking for wildlife and learning about the habitats along the way. Early morning and late afternoon drives are common options, depending on the destination and park arrangements.
Boat safaris
In selected destinations, take to the water to observe hippos, crocodiles, waterbirds and other wildlife along riverbanks and lake shores. The Nile in Murchison Falls and the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth are particularly well suited to this experience.
Walking and hiking
Where permitted and available, guided walks offer opportunities to explore landscapes on foot, learn about plants and birdlife, or take on more demanding trails in suitable areas. Activities, routes and age limits vary by location.
Birdwatching and photography
Uganda’s diverse habitats support a remarkable range of birds and other wildlife. A tented safari can be planned around general birding, specialist bird photography or time spent observing animals in their natural surroundings.
Cultural experiences
Selected journeys can include visits arranged with local communities, offering opportunities to learn about regional traditions, crafts, food and everyday life. These experiences are planned with attention to local preferences and appropriate guidance.
Tented accommodation varies from simple, comfortable safari tents to spacious en-suite units and more exclusive retreats. We consider the location, facilities, access to activities, travel distances, and your preferred style of travel before recommending a camp.
Some camps are best suited to wildlife viewing, while others work well as a base for forest activities, birding or exploring remote landscapes. Availability, seasonal access and facilities differ between properties, so we confirm the details as part of your itinerary planning.
From Uganda’s northern savannahs to its western national parks and forest regions, Wild Compass Africa can combine selected tented stays into a private safari shaped around your interests.
Tell us which places you want to explore, the level of comfort you prefer, and the experiences that matter most to you. We will help put together a journey that brings accommodation, wildlife and activities together in a practical and rewarding itinerary.
