Explore northern and northeastern Uganda on a 6-day wildlife and cultural safari from Entebbe or Kampala. The journey combines rhino tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, wildlife encounters in Murchison Falls National Park, and the remote wilderness of Kidepo Valley National Park.

From early morning game drives and a Nile River boat cruise to Kidepo’s open plains and rugged valleys, there are varied opportunities to photograph Uganda’s wildlife and landscapes. The safari also includes time with a Karamojong community, offering a closer look at local traditions, pastoral life and the people of Karamoja.

DAY 1

Entebbe to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and Murchison Falls

Entebbe to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and Murchison Falls

Depart early from Entebbe or Kampala and travel north to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Enjoy a guided rhino-tracking walk, following the sanctuary's experienced guides as you observe white rhinos in their natural surroundings.

Continue to Murchison Falls National Park and visit the Top of the Falls, where the Nile is forced through a narrow gorge before plunging into the gorge below. Continue to your lodge for the evening.

Murchison Falls Game Drive and Nile Boat Cruise

Rise early for a game drive across the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park. This is a good time to search for lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelope and a variety of birdlife.

After lunch, take a boat cruise along the Nile toward the base of Murchison Falls. Along the riverbanks, look for hippos, crocodiles, elephants coming to drink and numerous waterbirds. Return to the lodge for an evening at leisure.

Murchison Falls to Kidepo Valley National Park

After an early breakfast, depart Murchison Falls and begin the long journey north-east toward Kidepo Valley National Park. The route passes through changing landscapes and rural communities as you travel toward one of Uganda's most remote wilderness areas.

Arrive in the Kidepo area later in the day, check in and settle into the lodge. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy an evening or night game drive to begin exploring the park after dark.

Start the morning with a guided nature walk, experiencing Kidepo from a different perspective and learning about its plants, tracks, smaller wildlife and wider ecosystem. The surrounding landscapes also offer excellent opportunities for photography.

Later, enjoy time at the lodge before heading out for an evening game drive. As temperatures cool, search for wildlife across the open plains and valleys, including giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and, with luck, predators such as lions and leopards.

Bush Breakfast and Karamojong Cultural Experience

Begin the morning with a bush breakfast in the Kidepo landscape before spending time with a Karamojong community. Visit a traditional homestead and gain an insight into local life, livestock keeping, traditions and the cultural practices that remain an important part of life in Karamoja.

The experience also provides opportunities for respectful interaction and photography, with time to learn directly from the community rather than simply passing through.

Return to the lodge for a relaxed afternoon, with an optional evening game drive depending on interest and timing.

Arrive in Kampala or Entebbe in the late afternoon or evening, marking the end of your Northern Uganda safari.
