Destinations You’ll Visit

Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park is the perfect introduction to Uganda Wildlife Safaris. Although it is one of Uganda’s smaller national parks, it boasts an impressive diversity of wildlife and beautiful scenery. Rolling hills, open savannahs, acacia forests, and tranquil lakes create ideal habitats for zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes, giraffes, hippos, and over 350 bird species.

Unlike many other parks in East Africa, Lake Mburo also offers guided walking safaris, allowing visitors to experience wildlife from a completely different perspective. Watching giraffes or zebras on foot with an experienced ranger is an unforgettable experience that brings you closer to nature.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of Africa’s most important conservation areas. This ancient rainforest is home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, making it one of the best places on Earth for gorilla trekking.

The forest is also incredibly rich in biodiversity, supporting more than 120 mammal species, over 350 bird species, and hundreds of butterfly species. Beyond gorillas, Bwindi offers stunning mountain scenery, dense vegetation, and fascinating cultural experiences with the Batwa community, the forest’s original inhabitants.

Meeting a family of wild mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is often described as one of the world’s greatest wildlife experiences, leaving visitors with a deep appreciation for conservation and Uganda’s remarkable natural heritage.

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s most visited safari destination and one of Africa’s most diverse protected areas. Covering vast savannah plains, wetlands, forests, crater lakes, and the famous Kazinga Channel, the park supports an incredible variety of wildlife.

Visitors regularly encounter elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, hyenas, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs, and hippos. The southern Ishasha Sector is internationally renowned for its unique tree-climbing lions, while the northern Kasenyi Plains offer exceptional game viewing throughout the year.

The park is also one of Uganda’s premier birdwatching destinations, attracting bird enthusiasts from around the world with over 600 recorded bird species.

Accompanied by an experienced ranger, you'll quietly walk through open grasslands while observing zebras, giraffes, antelopes, birds, and smaller wildlife at close range.

Following breakfast, continue your journey southwest towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for protecting endangered mountain gorillas.

The drive itself is incredibly scenic, passing through tea plantations, volcanic hills, local markets, and terraced farmland. As you approach Bwindi, the landscape transforms into mist-covered mountains and ancient rainforest, creating an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Africa.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi – The Highlight of Your Uganda Wildlife Safari

Today is the moment many travelers have dreamed about—the incredible experience of mountain gorilla trekking.

After an early breakfast, you'll head to the Uganda Wildlife Authority headquarters for a briefing from experienced park rangers. Small groups are assigned to a habituated gorilla family before entering the dense rainforest accompanied by expert guides and trackers.

The trek may last anywhere from one to seven hours, depending on the gorillas' location. Along the way, your guides will share fascinating insights into the forest ecosystem, medicinal plants, birds, and wildlife that inhabit this extraordinary rainforest.

Then comes the unforgettable moment.

Standing only a few meters away from a family of wild mountain gorillas is one of the world's greatest wildlife experiences. Watch the powerful silverback protect his family, playful juveniles tumble through the vegetation, and mothers gently care for their infants. You'll spend one magical hour observing these remarkable primates in complete silence while capturing memories that will last a lifetime.

After returning from the trek, enjoy a well-deserved lunch before visiting the nearby Batwa community (optional). Learn about the traditions, music, dances, and forest survival skills of the Indigenous people who once lived within Bwindi Forest.

Ishasha is internationally renowned for its unique population of tree-climbing lions, a rare behavior observed in only a few locations across Africa. These magnificent predators are often seen resting high in fig and acacia trees during the warmest hours of the day.

Enjoy an afternoon game drive while searching for:

  • Tree-climbing lions
  • African elephants
  • Cape buffalo
  • Uganda kob

Morning is the best time to search for predators before temperatures rise. Your experienced guide will help locate lions, elephants, buffaloes, hyenas, waterbucks, and large herds of Uganda kob grazing across the open savannah.

Following lunch, continue to the famous Kazinga Channel for one of Uganda's most popular boat safaris.

Connecting Lake Edward and Lake George, the channel supports one of Africa's highest concentrations of hippos.

During the relaxing two-hour cruise, you'll enjoy spectacular views of:

Accompanied by experienced trackers, descend into the forest while listening for the distinctive calls of chimpanzees echoing through the trees.

Watching these intelligent primates interact, communicate, groom, and swing effortlessly through the forest canopy provides an incredible contrast to yesterday's gorilla experience.
