Day 1 β Arrival in Juba and Transfer to Toposa Village
Your journey begins upon arrival inΒ Juba, South Sudanβs capital. You will be warmly welcomed by your safari guide and immediately start your journey into the cultural heartland. Drive across scenic countryside towardΒ Toposa village, where youβll be introduced to a community whose way of life revolves entirely around cattle keeping.
On arrival, settle into your camp and prepare for your first evening among the Toposa. As the sun sets, you will have a chance to interact with villagers, learn about their traditions, and understand how cattle play a central role not only as a food source but also as a measure of wealth and social standing. Overnight at the camp.
Day 2 β Full Cultural Experience with the Toposa People
Wake up to the sounds of the pastoral community beginning their day. Spend the full day engaging with theΒ Toposa, visiting cattle enclosures, watching herding practices, and even trying your hand at milking cows. Youβll have the chance to observe how children gradually take on responsibilities, starting with tending goats before progressing to larger herds.
Later, immerse yourself in cultural expressionβwear traditional dress, enjoy the rhythms of local music, and take part in spirited dances that are integral to the Toposa identity. If available, take a camel ride through the village outskirts, giving you a wider view of the pastoral landscape. Evening storytelling around the fire completes the day.
Day 3 β Journey to Jie Village
After breakfast, depart forΒ Jie village, another pastoralist community closely related to the Toposa. The drive itself offers insight into the rugged beauty of South Sudanβs landscapes and the scattered homesteads that dot the plains. On arrival, youβll be welcomed by the Jie people and introduced to their culture.
Spend the day learning about their way of life, which is similar yet distinct from the Toposa. Enjoy cultural performances featuring music and dance, share moments of conversation with elders, and understand how both tribes navigate challenges such as cattle raids and seasonal migrations. Day 4 β Return to Juba and Departure
Enjoy your final morning in Jie village with a hearty breakfast before beginning the return journey to Juba. As you travel back, reflect on the deep cultural immersion and unique encounters youβve had over the past four days. Your guide will drop you atΒ Juba International Airport, marking the end of this unforgettable South Sudan cultural safari.
