Your South Sudan cultural journey begins with your arrival at Juba International Airport, where you will be met by your guide and transferred to the Royal Palace Hotel for some time to refresh, particularly if arriving in the early morning.

Later, leave Juba behind and travel by road into the rural landscapes of South Sudan, heading toward Mundari territory. The journey takes approximately 4–5 hours, gradually revealing a landscape shaped by open grasslands, villages, seasonal waterways, and cattle.

On arrival, settle into your campsite near the village before spending the afternoon getting your first introduction to the Mundari community. Meet local people, observe everyday activities, and begin learning about the deep relationship between the Mundari, their cattle, and the land.

Rise early to experience the Mundari cattle camps as the day begins. Spend the morning observing the daily routines of herders as cattle are cared for, milked, moved, and protected. The camps offer a remarkable insight into a way of life in which cattle are far more than livestock, forming an important part of social identity, tradition, and community life.

Continue exploring the surrounding village and cattle camps with your local guide, learning about Mundari traditions, family life, ceremonies, and cultural practices. There will also be opportunities to photograph the striking relationship between people, cattle, and the surrounding landscape, always with respect for local customs.

Depending on local arrangements, the afternoon or evening may include a traditional dance or cultural performance featuring drumming, chanting, and movement.

Journey to the Dinka Heartland and Nile River Adventure

Journey to the Dinka Heartland and Nile River Adventure

After breakfast, leave Mundari territory and continue your journey toward the Dinka heartland. The drive takes approximately 2–3 hours, passing through rural landscapes and communities that offer another perspective on life in South Sudan.

On arrival, visit a Dinka community and meet local families and elders. Spend time walking through the settlement, observing traditional homesteads and learning about Dinka culture, cattle-keeping traditions, community life, and the enduring connection between people, livestock, and the land.

Later, head toward the River Nile for a relaxing boat excursion, subject to local conditions and water levels. From the water, take in the expansive riverbanks, surrounding wetlands, birdlife, and remote landscapes while gaining a different perspective of the communities that depend on the Nile.

As the day comes to an end, settle into your campsite near the river or within a nearby village. Enjoy a peaceful evening in the heart of South Sudan before the journey back to Juba the following day.

After breakfast, begin the journey back to Juba, travelling approximately 4–5 hours through the countryside. The return drive offers a final opportunity to take in South Sudan’s rural landscapes and reflect on the cultural experiences of the past few days.

Depending on your flight schedule, there may be time for a brief visit to a local market or the National Museum, providing a final glimpse into Juba and South Sudan’s cultural heritage.

Later, transfer to Juba International Airport for your onward flight, bringing your 4-day cultural journey through Mundari and Dinka communities to an end.
