Park Overview

A premier wildlife and birdwatching paradise in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley

Established in 1961 and located in the heart of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru National Park is a spectacular wildlife sanctuary centered around the alkaline Lake Nakuru. The park is internationally renowned for its impressive ecological diversity, scenic beauty, and rich birdlife. Spanning approximately 188 square kilometers, the park features a variety of habitats, from bushy grasslands and acacia woodlands to rocky escarpments and marshy wetlands.

One of the park’s most captivating sights is the pink-hued shoreline, formed by thousands of flamingos feeding on algae in the lake. Beyond birds, Lake Nakuru is also a key refuge for endangered species such as the black and white rhinoceros, as well as Rothschild’s giraffes, large herds of buffalo, elusive leopards, lions, and numerous antelope species.

Its unique setting and year-round accessibility make Lake Nakuru National Park a must-visit safari destination in Kenya for both first-time and seasoned travelers.
