3-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari

Begin your Rwanda safari with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, an important historical site that provides insight into Rwanda’s past, remembrance and remarkable journey of resilience.

After the visit, leave Kigali and drive towards Volcanoes National Park, travelling through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside of rolling hills, farmland and local communities.

Upon reaching the Volcanoes region, visit the Dian Fossey Museum. This is a meaningful introduction to mountain gorilla conservation, offering insight into Dian Fossey’s life, her pioneering research and her contribution to protecting the gorillas of the Virunga mountains.

The visit provides valuable context before tomorrow’s trek, helping you understand the history, conservation efforts and people behind the protection of these remarkable animals.

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for your gorilla trekking briefing. Rangers will explain the trekking guidelines, safety procedures and what to expect during your time in the forest.

Begin your trek into the misty rainforest of Volcanoes National Park with experienced guides and trackers. The trek can take approximately 4–7 hours, depending on the location and movements of your assigned gorilla family.

Once you find the gorillas, spend a memorable hour observing their natural behaviour and interactions. Watching a family feeding, playing, grooming or caring for their young offers an intimate glimpse into their world.

After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and time to rest.

Later, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village for an authentic cultural experience. Meet local people, experience traditional music and dance, and learn about the community’s culture and connection to gorilla conservation.

Return to the lodge for a relaxed evening.
