Park Overview

Perched on the verdant slopes of Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda, Sipi Falls is one of the country’s most captivating natural wonders. This scenic destination is renowned for its series of three powerful waterfalls, which plunge dramatically down basalt cliffs shaped by ancient volcanic activity. The surrounding landscape is a picturesque mix of lush greenery, terraced hillsides, and sweeping views that stretch across the Karamoja plains and into Kenya.

The three waterfalls that comprise Sipi Falls vary in height and character, each offering a unique charm. The main and lowest waterfall, often referred to simply as Sipi Falls, plunges approximately 100 meters over a sheer cliff, creating a thundering cascade and an iconic view that has become synonymous with the region.

The second waterfall, locally known as Simba, drops 69 meters over the entrance of a cave. Adventurous visitors can walk behind the curtain of water and stand within the cave, offering a truly immersive experience—particularly rewarding when water volumes are moderate and the spray is gentle.

The third and highest of the upper falls, called Ngasire, dramatically plunges 87 meters over a rugged escarpment. It is the least visited but no less spectacular, offering seclusion and serenity for those willing to explore deeper into the surrounding hills.

Beyond the falls themselves, Sipi is surrounded by small villages, coffee plantations, and a welcoming local community, making it an excellent blend of nature, culture, and adventure.
