Experience the untouched landscapes and extraordinary tribal cultures of Northern Kenya on this immersive 15-day photography safari. Journey beyond the tourist trail into Lake Baringo, the Ndoto Mountains, Lake Turkana, the Chalbi Desert, and Samburu country, gaining exclusive access to some of East Africa’s most visually stunning and remote communities.

This expedition is designed for photographers, storytellers, and cultural travelers who want to capture authentic moments, sunrise and sunset landscapes, and intimate portraits of local life. You will spend extended time with the Pokot, Njemps, Rendille, Turkana, El Molo, Dassanech, Gabra, Borana, Burji, and Samburu people, documenting daily life, ceremonies, pastoral traditions, and unique landscapes.

Your Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Nairobi | Tour Briefing

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, and transfer to a comfortable hotel near the airport. In the evening, meet your Wild Compass Africa expedition leader and photography guides for a briefing covering itinerary details, photography tips, cultural etiquette, and safety protocols.

Day 2 – Nairobi to Lake Baringo | Pokot Communities

Drive northwest to Lake Baringo, a scenic Rift Valley lake surrounded by acacia woodland and volcanic hills. In the afternoon, visit a Pokot homestead, photographing family life, traditional attire, and livestock culture.

• Lakeside landscapes at sunset
• Village routines and cattle herding

Day 3 – Lake Baringo | Njemps Fishermen & Wildlife

Before sunrise, join Njemps fishermen on traditional canoes as they bring in the day’s catch, often accompanied by African Fish Eagles. Visit an island Njemps village for portraits and cultural storytelling photography. The afternoon includes a boat session capturing Nile crocodiles, hippos, and waterbirds along the lake’s edge.

Day 4 – Lake Baringo to Ndoto Mountains | Rendille Country

Day 5 – Ndoto Mountains | Rendille Morans & Villages

Day 6 – Ndoto Mountains to Lake Turkana | Desert Transition

Cross the arid rock desert toward Lake Turkana. Arrive in Loiyangalani for a first glimpse of Turkana homesteads. Photograph Rendille women, El Molo fishing communities, and ancient giraffe petroglyphs.

Days 10–11 – Chalbi Desert | Gabra Nomads & Singing Wells

Day 15 – Samburu to Nairobi | Tour Ends
