Your cultural safari begins the moment you land in Juba, South Sudan’s capital city. Upon arrival, your driver-guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a leisurely evening in the city, relaxing and preparing for the adventure ahead. This first day is all about settling in and getting ready to step into one of Africa’s least explored cultural landscapes.

Day 2: Journey to the Mundari Community in Terekeka

After breakfast, you’ll set off for Terekeka, the heartland of the Mundari people. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by the elders, who will share stories about their traditions and beliefs over a communal lunch. In the evening, you’ll set up camp near the cattle kraals. As the sun sets over the plains, enjoy stunning photo opportunities with the cattle before gathering around a campfire for dinner, storytelling, and starlit conversations.

Day 3: Full Day with the Mundari Tribe

This is the most immersive day of your safari. Spend time with the community as they go about their daily activities. Join herders in grazing their long-horned cattle, assist in milking, and try your hand at small-scale gardening. The Mundari’s unique scarification traditions will also be explained, offering insight into cultural practices that are slowly disappearing. In the evening, the village comes alive with vibrant music and energetic dances. You’ll share in their meals, sampling local dishes prepared with milk, cow ghee, and other traditional staples. This is a day of total cultural immersion.

Day 4: Return to Juba

Wake up to the sights and sounds of the Mundari camp before preparing to say goodbye to your hosts. After breakfast, you will journey back to Juba, where you’ll check into your hotel. The rest of the day can be spent at leisure—either resting or exploring the city’s lively streets at your own pace.

Day 5: Juba City Tour & Departure

On your final day, enjoy a guided tour of Juba. Visit important cultural and historic sites such as churches, local markets filled with crafts and fabrics, museums showcasing South Sudan’s heritage, and art galleries that reflect the creativity of its people. After the tour, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your unforgettable cultural safari.

Your journey begins upon arrival in Juba, South Sudan’s capital. You will be warmly welcomed by your safari guide and immediately start your journey into the cultural heartland. Drive across scenic countryside toward Toposa village, where you’ll be introduced to a community whose way of life revolves entirely around cattle keeping.
On arrival, settle into your camp and prepare for your first evening among the Toposa. As the sun sets, you will have a chance to interact with villagers, learn about their traditions, and understand how cattle play a central role not only as a food source but also as a measure of wealth and social standing. Overnight at the camp.

Day 2 – Full Cultural Experience with the Toposa People

Wake up to the sounds of the pastoral community beginning their day. Spend the full day engaging with the Toposa, visiting cattle enclosures, watching herding practices, and even trying your hand at milking cows. You’ll have the chance to observe how children gradually take on responsibilities, starting with tending goats before progressing to larger herds.
Later, immerse yourself in cultural expression—wear traditional dress, enjoy the rhythms of local music, and take part in spirited dances that are integral to the Toposa identity. If available, take a camel ride through the village outskirts, giving you a wider view of the pastoral landscape. Evening storytelling around the fire completes the day.

Day 3 – Journey to Jie Village

After breakfast, depart for Jie village, another pastoralist community closely related to the Toposa. The drive itself offers insight into the rugged beauty of South Sudan’s landscapes and the scattered homesteads that dot the plains. On arrival, you’ll be welcomed by the Jie people and introduced to their culture.
Spend the day learning about their way of life, which is similar yet distinct from the Toposa. Enjoy cultural performances featuring music and dance, share moments of conversation with elders, and understand how both tribes navigate challenges such as cattle raids and seasonal migrations. Overnight in the village camp.

Day 4 – Return to Juba and Departure

Enjoy your final morning in Jie village with a hearty breakfast before beginning the return journey to Juba. As you travel back, reflect on the deep cultural immersion and unique encounters you’ve had over the past four days. Your guide will drop you at Juba International Airport, marking the end of this unforgettable South Sudan cultural safari.

Soon after, begin your journey by road toward the Mundari homeland, a drive of approximately 4–5 hours through rural South Sudan. On arrival, set up camp near the village and spend the afternoon settling in. As evening approaches, you will meet members of the Mundari community, learning about their daily activities, traditions, and the central role of cattle in their lives. The first night is spent under canvas near the village, where the rhythm of local life surrounds you.

Day 2 – Life in the Mundari Cattle Camps

The day is dedicated to exploring the village and the famed cattle camps of the Mundari people. You will witness the bond between herders and their livestock, observing how cattle are milked, tended, and protected. Your guide will interpret customs ranging from scarification practices to the symbolic meaning of body adornments. If arrangements are made, you may enjoy a traditional Mundari dance performance, which blends drumming, chanting, and graceful movements. Evenings in the camp are particularly captivating, as smoke from dung fires drifts across the herds, giving the scene a mystical glow. Tonight, you camp once more in the Mundari homeland, deepening your understanding of their way of life.

Day 3 – Journey to the Dinka Heartland & Nile River Adventure

After breakfast, depart for the Dinka region, a drive of approximately 2–3 hours. On arrival, you will be welcomed into a Dinka village where elders and families share stories of their culture and resilience. Take time to walk through the settlement, observing traditional homesteads and gaining perspective on how the Nile sustains both people and livestock. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat ride on the River Nile (subject to water levels), offering views of unspoiled riverbanks and a chance to appreciate the grandeur of this legendary river. Your campsite for the night will be set near the Nile or within a nearby village, offering a serene conclusion to the day.

Day 4 – Return to Juba & Departure

After breakfast, embark on the return journey to Juba, a drive of approximately 4–5 hours. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time to visit Juba’s vibrant local markets or explore the National Museum, which showcases South Sudan’s heritage. In the afternoon or evening, you will be transferred to Juba International Airport for your onward flight, carrying with you memories of one of Africa’s most unique cultural experiences.

Day 4 – The World of the Dinka

Today, you enter the land of the Dinka, one of the largest and most influential tribes in East Africa. Cattle are central to Dinka society, representing wealth, status, and spiritual connection. You’ll witness herding traditions, experience their warm hospitality, and learn how cattle form the cornerstone of family life, marriage negotiations, and community identity.

Day 5 – Crossing the Nile to Mingkaman

Your journey continues with a morning among the Dinka people before boarding a boat across the White Nile. This crossing offers scenic views and a moment to reflect on the significance of the river in sustaining life. Arriving in Mingkaman town, you explore its busy markets and streets, where rural and urban cultures intertwine. Here, you engage with local traders and experience South Sudan’s everyday rhythm.

Day 6 – The Mundari Cattle Camps

Few experiences rival a visit to the Mundari cattle camps. Home to thousands of cattle, these camps are a living tapestry of fire smoke, animal calls, and human interaction. The Mundari are celebrated for their devotion to cattle, which shapes every aspect of their lives. Day 7 – Living with the Mundari

Day 8 – Return to Juba and Departure

After a week of immersive encounters, you return to Juba. Depending on your flight schedule, you may revisit the city’s cultural sites and markets before transferring to the airport.
